How To Rust Free Hardware

By Kevin Reed

The problem many individuals faces is that their hardware rusts from time to time. There are those who find this annoying as they do not know how to remove it or have little knowledge. Worst, you might have to buy a new one for replacement. This is the reason why many are looking for rust free hardware.

Now, buying a new one and throwing the affected one should not be your always option. There are many simple steps that you could follow to help you with this kind of problem. All you will be needing are materials already found on your homes. Provided below are steps to remove rusts from your hardware.

White vinegar. When vinegar gets into contact with it which is acidic by the way, the rust will dissolve. What you would do is soak the metal part that rusted into the white vinegar. Wait for a few hours then scrub it off. This is applicable when the item is just small, but when it is too big, simply pour it down to the item and repeat the same process mentioned earlier.

For scrubbing, what you should be using are abrasive. It is more effective than any other ones due to its roughness. When you do not have one at home, you may use an aluminum foil instead which surely might be present around your house. You just have to crumpled it up to create roughness.

Use a potato, yes, a potato. The reason for that is the oxalic acid present on the potato. This is most useful to small objects like knives. You do two ways, the first one is by simply stabbing the knife into the potato for the whole night. Second one, cut the potato in half and coat the exposed are with baking soda. Rub the knife to it until it becomes soft, then, wipe using an abrasive material.

Baking soda paste. Simple mix baking soda with water, make sure that its thick enough than a toothpaste. Coat it and let it sit for a while. You may use a toothbrush to scrub. After all those pesky rusts are gone, rinse it off with water.

Dish soap with potato. Cut the potato in half and the exposed part where you have made the cut must be covered in dish soap. Then, scrub it on the item until the rusts fully comes of. When you need to use another one simply cut the part that you have used from both ends and apply another dish soap again.

Oxalic acid. Remember, this chemical is a bit strong so take precautionary measures. When doing this step, use gloves, mask, and protection for your clothing. Mix oxalic acid with water and directly pour it to the product. After the procedure, wash it up with cold water and have it air dry out in the sun.

Do not forget to rinse it with water thoroughly afterwards. The advantage with the chemical is that it only takes a few minutes to get rid of those pesky rusts no more waiting for longer hours. You just have to handle it correctly to avoid getting into an accident.
