Getting Calls From Debt Collectors? Here Are Some Tips

By Kyle Piraino

There are a lot of situations where a debt collector can come calling your home asking for money. Some are less obvious then actually owing money. A lot of times you could have already dealt with the situation and a debt collection agency can still end up calling your home looking for compensation.

One of the most common instance that someone would call your home would be if you owe money. This may seem obvious, but some people are still surprised when a debt collection company calls their home. A lot of people even decide to ignore the collection calls because they either do not have the funds or do not want to deal with the calls. This can be hurtful to your overall situation if you ignore the calls because of the ability to negotiate with them ceases to exist if you do not talk to them.

Another situation where a debt collector can call your home is if you have filed for bankruptcy. If you have decided you do not have the ability to pay your bills and have filed for chapter 7, a bill collector may not know this and could call your home looking for you to pay this debt. A lot of people ignore this call because they assume that the debt collector will eventually get this information and stop calling. This is not necessarily true, the collector may not know this and you should issue your discharge order to the agency.

Another situation you would assume would not happen is a debt collector calling you if you have already paid off your debt. If you have missed payments but eventually end up paying them off, you should still not ignore calls from a debt collector such as Rapid Recovery Solutions. The only way you can rectify this situation is by sending a letter with a dispute and the receipt from your debt clearance. This will stop the collectors and let you get on with your life.

Unknown to a lot of people is when you have debt that is very old, you can stop collectors from calling you quite easily. If your debt is past the SOL of your area, you can ask the collectors to stop calling and according to the Federal Trade Commission the collector must abide to your request. Although the debt still must be paid, they cannot keep harassing you for the money.
