How to Use Advertising to Make Your Blog Make Money

By Monica Martinez

Publishing your blog in a way that is conducive to third party advertisements is pretty basic and easy to understand. You'll find the greater challenge may be attracting clients. The higher your traffic levels and reputation, the easier it is going to be. Even people who are near the minimums for selling advertising can be okay if they put regular effort into their marketing. This means that it is important to figure out what is going to be best for your business. There are some truly tricky areas in which it is very simple to send out the wrong signals and to make major mistakes. So just take your time and learn what you need and then get started.

Business owners choose your site to advertise their products and services because you represent a good fit for them. Help these advertisers by putting together content that will talk about common products. Imagine the affect when visitors can read the content and there are specific ads on that page for the product. You should not employ this technique on every page, though. Remember, your site was there before you started selling ads. But you can test this and drive traffic to those pages before running ads. One good model for this application is the product review. Pick out a few products or services that you know are popular and then write reviews of them. Link to other pages too, like linking to the review from your website's main page.

Shoppers and consumers alike are always looking for discounts and deals. Businesspeople are the same way. You need to treat your ad selling in the same exact way, offering a deal they cannot resist. By simply running a few tests on ideas that you brainstorm, you can find out what works best. You might want to offer them a free product, or give them a deal on a package of your products. But what you want to do is make the freebie a delayed ad rotation. Delaying the free ad has worked for many businesses, though some of them will not try it at all. You need to tell them that you spread out the free ads so the offer can be made. Your visitors will also appreciate it, not seeing ads similar to their own business.

When you have earned your own hype you'll be able to charge more and sell more. But you won't be able to accomplish this until all of the necessary groundwork has been done. Position your site as an authority but don't tell people that's what you're doing--it's tricky but doable. Demonstrating your expertise and knowledge levels are one way to do this. Put yourself out there--you can do this pretty easily by writing and doing guest blogs. Try hard to get your work published on the best known blogs because this will be important leverage later on. For example, on your ad page, you can talk about the fact that you were guest blogging on one of the better known blogs.

After you have successfully sold ad space on your website you can expect years of profit. It is vital that you focus on beefing up the pages which receive lower levels of traffic. Anything you can do to even out the traffic throughout your site will bring you more profits.
